The Dreamkeepers "Education, like electricity, needs a conduit, a teacher, through which to transmit its power- i.e., the discovery and continuity of information, knowledge, wisdom, experience, and culture. Through the stories and experiences of eight successful teacher-transmitters, The DreamKeepers keeps hope alive for educating young African Americans."

Isn't it tough to teach when kids are so focused on "other things!" Prom, game night, not to mention girlfriend & boyfriend issues! What about the text messaging that goes on all day long. Think about the impact that has on kids as they enter the classroom.

ReplyDeleteI love the first quote you shared, that is very deep. The one that I could relate to the most was the last quote about TESTS! I am for some reason not a good test taker... I sit there for way too long analyzing everything and go back forth until I am so frustrated I don't know what's what! One prime example of a test that doesn't really test what the student knows can be found in the teacher certification tests! I have tried to take the E.L.A. extension test 3 times... and have failed all three times! The test doesn't even ask us about authors we know like Chaucer or Shakespeare! I have to take it again but I have decided to put it off until next summer. It's not worth it to me to stress about it at this time.
