Vocabulary Vitalizer: Ch. 7 (S. Fess)

1. Subversive: a cause of overthrow or destruction

2. Delegitimate: to diminish or destroy the legitimacy, prestige, or authority

3. Periphery: the outward bounds of something as distinguished from its internal regions or center

4. Oppressor: to crush or burden by abuse of POWER or authority

5. Engender: to cause to exist or to develop : PRODUCE POLICIES that have engendered controversy

6. Intrinsic: belonging to the essential nature or constitution of a thing

7. Recessionary: a period of reduced ECONOMIC activity

8. Confounding: to put to shame

9. Apolitical: having no interest or involvement in POLITICAL AFFAIRS; also :having an aversion to politics or political affairs

  1. Man, there are a lot of words that you read, that you don't even notice... I'm glad you broke these down for us. The one that stuck out the most to me was Intrinsic... they grilled that into our heads in undergraduate school at Roberts Wesleyan. Instrinsic motivation is better defined as a students ability to accomplish something because they "want" to. Versus extrinsic motivation where the student only completes tasks because they know they will get a reward for it. That is why it is so important for us as teachers to chill... in terms of candy and food, and reward them with more meaningful educational experiences.
